So, at 5:00 AM I woke up to a mosquito attacking me. I closed off the room and spent about 5 minutes in hunter-killer mode. I successfully smacked that pain in my ass. Fortunately, I fell back to sleep and got some sleep.
When I woke up, it was to the music of a leaf blower by the lawn guys. Joy. One other treat they provide is absolutely no water pressure. So shaving and showering are out. Luckily, I took care of the showering part the night before.
I then water the garden. This turns out to go fine and I get a nice ripe strawberry that we grew.
Then I think things are going fine, but I then see a train going backwards. I’ve seen this many times, but today it seemed weird.
I get to work, and what do I hear: leaf blowers.
This blog is turning into a Harvey Pekar comic.

You know what silicon valley needs… it needs a pub. I mean, look at Shrek2 or Star Wars or any D&D module. There is always a pub. How else are you really going to find a person of particular talents. It would be fun to meet the local people who are interested in say 1980’s console hacking, or people who have access to a gigabit of IP bandwidth, or a kernel hacker who knows the VM for a particular OS like the back of their hand.
…Silicon Valley needs a pub.
I recommend the snack bars at Fry’s. They should have a thing at each table that labels the occupants ’skillz’

Back in the old eGroups days, after the merger with OneList, I was doing a tour of our datacenter for the CEO, Michael Klein. As I was getting near our cage, I did something that I do every now and then, something dumb - but funny. I noticed a cage that used machines like ours, and I proclaimed to the CEO, “look these guys are starting to use machines like us, people are noticing our great ideas.” Within a minute, one of the ops guys working for me turned a corner and I told him the same. He smiled and said, “Uh, that is one of our new cages”. I turned a nice deep shade of red in front of Mr. Klein and smiled.
(I thought of this today, as I was looking at a GUI timeline on the web and noticing how the early Mac UI was like a Lisa, until I noticed that it was a screenshot of the Lisa

Today’s blog entry is a guest blog by a random user named not_blakec, and it’s about a recent Plaxo blog (see trackback) Without further ado….
Ok, blake != FALSE here, and I agree with that blogger’s post about being in Program Files and Documents and settings. While we’re at it, I would like to complain about Plaxo not being written in C#. Who are these guys and what do they have against some good old fashioned garbage collection?? This is a major peeve of mine. I mean c’mon everyone knows why C++ was called ‘a wart on a wart’. Get with it Plaxo!
(Note to the uninformed masses reading this blog, this is filed under Humor because, we are both engineers at Plaxo and have been anxious to get some of these fixes in for a while. That guys blog post ‘fast tracked’ those fixes for our upcoming 2.0 release which will blow your socks off)
(P.S. don’t fire me. I heart Boost)
