The Band: The The Album: Mind Bomb

Note, this band had Johnny Marr of the Smiths in the band at the time.

YouTube music videos

YouTube has some great old music videos. Steve sent me some links to some of his favorite old vids, so I looked for some of mine. I haven’t heard some of this music in a long long time. The music might be found on eBay or from a re-seller on Amazon, but the videos are basically lost. If iTunes doesn’t carry it, does it exist?

Anyways, here is a great old ( 1994 - so old! :-) ) video of a band that existed in Cambridge/Boston MA. The music was pretty ahead of its time and the video was well done. You’ve never heard of them and you probably won’t like it.

Access to all information is becoming a reality. It is so refreshing to remember something on a whim, search for it, and then actually see/hear it in mere seconds.

Harry Potter : Goblet of Fire

Overall: Highly Recomended

I hate going to theatres these days. The seats are not comfortable, the bathrooms aren’t very nice. Did I mention the uncomfortable seats and the lady in front who brings a 2 year old to a movie that is quite scary? Movie theatres are not great places.

However, my daughter is a Harry Potter fan and she has been counting the days to see this film. I really like Harry Potter books and movies as well. It is still appealing to see these books come to life in the movies. So, we Fandango’d a few tickets for the matinee over in Redwood City.

Fandango rocks. Very easy.

The movie. Great special effects on a great story. Good pacing and a good rendition of the book. (As in, they cut the right stuff to make the movie work)

If you can wait, that is even better. Wait for the DVD and avoid the theatre mess.

40 Year Old Virgin

Great comedy and a great group of actors. They nailed so many scenes in this movie, its not funny (yeah, yeah, a pun :-) )

When it gets to video rental, go check it out.

Highly recommended!

Review: New Voyages

new voyages

Yeah, I’m late to the party for this stuff, but here goes.

A while back, some Star Trek fans got together and made some new episodes based on the original Star Trek. They are called New Voyages.

Review: Recommeded. Just watch them. They are fun.. and even my wife liked them. They really got the formula down. Very entertaining.

Review: Star Wars Revelations

revelations

On the Star Wars front, there is a new fan film called Revelations by Panic Struck productions. It’s a free download via torrent or their site.

Overall: Recommended. Yeah, it’s not a Lucasfilm product, but it’s not too far off. I think its better than even the stuff on the Sci-Fi channel (from what I can remember of it). Yes, the acting, writing, sound, and a few other bits need work. But! What an achievement for a small indy group of fans!

Review: Sith Apprentice

So I checked out the short film Sith Apprentice at Atomfilms. It supposedly got great reviews by the fan community.

My take: not a great short movie. Yeah, they put some energy into it for sure, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Free movies on the net…

Over the past couple of weeks or so, I’ve been checking out some of the work that the fans and amatuer film makers have been creating on the web. I’m going to post info about each one here. Overall, I’m really impressed.

It’s more “Wow, look at this stuff. The internet is such a great enabler”
